Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s is a vibrant community farm located in Malverne, New York. Managed by the Nassau Land Trust, this five-acre certified organic farm is dedicated to sustainable agriculture, community engagement, and education.
History and Mission
The land has been farmed for over a century, originally by the Grossmann family. In 2006, Nassau County acquired the property through the Environmental Bond Act to preserve it as a working farm. Since 2010, the Nassau Land Trust has operated the farm, focusing on organic farming practices and community involvement.
Farm Offerings
Crossroads Farm offers a variety of organic produce, available at their on-site farm stand. The farm stand also features products from other local Long Island farms, including organic and conventionally grown items. Additionally, the farm hosts a seasonal farmers market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., showcasing local food vendors, craft bakers, and artisans.
Educational Programs and Volunteering
The farm provides educational programs for schools, scouts, and the general public, focusing on organic farming and sustainability. Volunteers are welcome to participate in various farm activities, from planting and harvesting to assisting at the farm stand and events. Crossroads Farm hosts numerous events throughout the year, including seasonal festivals like Oktoberfest, featuring craft beer, food trucks, hayrides, and family-friendly activities.
