Profile
Paumanok Vineyards is a family-owned estate winery located in Aquebogue, New York, on the North Fork of Long Island. Established in 1983 by Charles and Ursula Massoud, along with their three sons, the vineyard spans 127 acres and is dedicated to producing high-quality wines from estate-grown grapes. The name “Paumanok” is derived from the Native American term for Long Island, famously used by Walt Whitman in his poetry.
Winemaking Philosophy and Practices
Paumanok Vineyards focuses on cultivating premium vinifera grapevines, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vineyard employs dense planting techniques, with 1,100 to 1,400 vines per acre, to produce more concentrated fruit, resulting in higher quality wines. All wines are made exclusively from estate-grown grapes, with an annual production limited to fewer than 12,000 cases.
Sustainability and Innovation
Committed to sustainable farming practices, Paumanok Vineyards is certified by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing (LISW). Since 2017, the winery has been 100% solar-powered, reflecting its dedication to environmental responsibility.

The winery features a renovated turn-of-the-century barn that houses a fermentation tank room and lab. Above the barrel cellar is a spacious tasting room, surrounded by an inviting deck overlooking the vineyards. This setting provides an ideal location for wine tastings, private parties, and weddings.
