Second Hand Smoke in Pine Hills Villas

If you are seeking an apartment, you might want to reconsider moving into an apartment complex like all of the Heatherwood Apartments, including Pine Hills Villas. They do not offer any smoke-free buildings in their complexes, and this puts you and especially your children, at risk from the secondhand smoke that circulates throughout the apartment buildings' heating and electrical systems. Your family can be exposed to deadly carcinogens and other toxins. The Surgeon General has warned of the following in his 2006 report:
1."Secondhand smoke contains hundreds of chemicals known to be toxic or carcinogenic (cancer-causing), including formaldehyde, benzene, vinyl chloride, arsenic, ammonia, and hydrogen cyanide."
2."Children exposed to secondhand smoke are at an increased risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), acute respiratory infections, ear problems, and more severe asthma."
3. "Exposure of adults to secondhand smoke has immediate adverse effects on the cardiovascular system and causes coronary heart disease and lung cancer."
4. "The scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke."
5. "Separating smokers from nonsmokers, cleaning the air, and ventilating buildings cannot eliminate exposures of nonsmokers to secondhand smoke."

If you currently live in one of the Heatherwood apartments, contact your local, state, and federal representatives to call for laws to force aprtment building owners to provide smoke-free buildings to prevent the deadly consequences of secondhand smoke. You can notify the apartment managers in writing that you want to be provided a smoke-free building to protect your health.
